Excerpt from my book,  My Coming of Age

'As I sit writing I return to a dream I had a few years ago.  It was Friday Dec. 4, 1998.  I dreamt my great grandmother, Texanna Davis, was telling me how she suffered.  She said, You think your grandmother suffered, but I really suffered!  She described a lifetime as being similar to building blocks on a building.  She said my grandmother took up where she left off, and that now Im taking up where my grandmother left off, each building on to what the other accomplished during their lifetime.

In the dream, I cried at how my great-grandmother said shed suffered, but she said this was all necessary, and that my life story should begin with her. I had prayed earlier for guidance on how to begin. This dream came as an unexpected surprise.'
